2022 Gruner Veltliner

A relatively new varietal for us!  We’ve always loved the great Gruners of the world (read Austria), finding them among the most food friendly of white wines.  The best examples have beautiful aromatics, good acidity, complexity of fruit and some measure of mouthfeel.

We jumped at the chance to make Gruner when it was offered by a grower (Pear Blossom Vineyards) not too far down the road from Celilo Vineyards in the spectacular Columbia Gorge.

We were shocked and delighted to have the first Gruner we made (back in 2012) turn out so wonderful!  Things have just gotten better.  We expected this wine to be spectacular based on what we harvested and it delivers.

The wine has classic aromatics, great acidity and a remarkable amount of body – a mouthfeel like few others. Where does this come from? Our Pinot Gris typically has this property – the Gruner ever more so!
